As Ella gets closer to the 6 month mark, I’ve been reflecting on the early days of motherhood and how unorganized I felt trying to navigate 3 am feedings and figuring out what things were the best for E, and what was just bologna.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m not one to recommend a billion baby items. Babies only use so many things for a short while! When I was trying to prep for E’s arrival, I was overwhelmed by the stupid amount of recommendations that every pin on Pinterest said I absolutely had had to have. My mom pretty much summed it up when she said people have been having babies for a very long time without Mommaroos and bottle warmers!
With that in mind, here’s my barebones list of things that were SUPER helpful (especially in the early days).
Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper
This thing is seriously the best. I’ve talked to a lot of moms who swear by it, and I’m so glad we’ve had it around. Ella slept in it SO MUCH. It’s lightweight, so it can easily be moved around the house or even travel. If I had to pick one thing from this list to have, this would be the thing.
Before I had Ella, I thought these were trendy and silly. I was so wrong! Wubbanubs help so much when their little fingers have enough dexterity to maneuver the animal back to their mouth, but not a tiny paci. This is was especially great when Ella is in the backseat and I can’t reach around to help her!
Do you enjoy snapping 20 buttons at 2 am?
Me either. Buy sleepers with zippers. Trust me on this one.
Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Anti-Colic Bottles
Ohhhh mannn. Lots of tears were shed on the way to these bottles finding their way into our lives. Ella nursed and took a bottle while I was on maternity leave. No issues at all. Perfect eater…until 2 weeks before I went back to work. She started to flat out refuse ALL bottles. My mom and I ended up going on an adventure to Target. 50 bucks and 4 bottles later (side note: why are bottles so expensive??), we finally found one that she’d take. Tommee Tippee is reviewed by lots of breast feeding mommas as the only bottle their babies would take, and I definitely agree with this! The only issue I had with it, was that it started leaking about a week after we purchased it BUT I did contact customer support and they not only replaced the leaky bottle but gave me a second one for free! Yay! E is a bit more relaxed about what bottle she’ll take these days, but I am definitely thankful for Tommee Tippee so she didn’t have to hunger strike while I was at work the first couple of weeks.
Babyganics Face, Hand & Baby Wipes
This one may seem silly, but I cannot preach enough about these wipes. I really dislike it when wipes are too perfume-y, or when they don’t do their job (you feel me?). These are cotton fiber, fragrance free, and gentle on sensitive skin. I love them for Ella, and I use them to take off my makeup. #multitasker
Most importantly…they fully unfold when you pull them out of the package. VERY important when you’ve got a blow out going on.
